DAZE Records puts out a killer sophomore LP by South Florida Hardcore outfit Domain.
The sound of this record can only be described as an unrelenting onslaught; a product of excellent sequencing. The first three tracks flow seamlessly together, with the transition between Victory in Slaughter and Life’s Cold Grasp being a special piece of art. Victory in Slaughter has to be given special attention not only for its blazing display of hardcore musicianship but also for the vocal performance by the late, great Peter ‘Mean Pete’ Kowalski of Remembering Never, Bishop, and Ether Coven fame. This performance is genuinely scary as fuck; some lines on this track put only the most dangerous of pits in one's head. If you could only listen to one track from this LP, this is the one. There are other contenders for that one-listen spot, however, Chaos Reigns has an intro part that, in a couple of years, will become synonymous with kids having their noses broken to only three guitar chords and after the intro, it gets even more insane.
Domain does another insane thing on this LP, reusing two previously released songs. Typically, this is a sign of phoning it in, however, the band has re-recorded the songs, combined into a singular masterpiece called No Escape/ Crimson World, both are fan classics resurrected into this actual beast of a song. The performances feel familiar, but keep the sound in line with what the rest of the LP sounds like; it's truly the best version of upcycling.
The entire LP is worth your time. If you are from South Florida, it probably has already been injected into your veins, but if you are not, you can listen to the LP at the links below. There are three important things all South Floridians rely on to get them through their day: a good cup of Cafécito, the ribs from Flanigan's being delicious, and Domain giving them amazing music. The Cafécito might not always be good, and those ribs might suck sometimes, but Domain is the constant that every single soul in South Florida can rely on to be good, and Life’s Cold Grasp, the sophomore LP from the band, is further proof of this fact. The twenty-six-minute LP is a masterclass in ass-beating breakdowns and awe-inspiring riffs, with lyrics delivered with such savagery that they would make you want to square up with God.
